A Personal Quest for Purity: Mamta's Kansa Journey
My tryst with Kansa began not as a business idea, but as a personal necessity. A committed Ayurveda and yoga practitioner, I yearned for more than superficial answers. I dove deep, exploring the science, the tradition, and the sacred metallurgy behind Kansa.
Since 1995, quality has been my hallmark as a designer. Translating this value into Kansa meant decoding myths, navigating misinformation, and chasing the elusive goal of true purity.
Kansa vs. Bronze: Know the Difference
Not all metalware is created equal. The common confusion between Kansa and Bronze can quietly undo the very benefits you’re seeking. True Kansa is a precise 78 percent Copper and 22 percent Tin alloy. Bronze, though copper-based, may include aluminium, nickel, zinc, arsenic, or silicon—making it softer, reactive, and nutritionally ineffective.
Only Kansa, in its 78:22 composition, unlocks the full therapeutic potential acknowledged by Ayurveda.
Artisanal Excellence: Rediscovering a Dying Craft
I travelled across India, from forges to foundries, seeking answers and authenticity. While mass-market makers favoured moulding and casting, I found my truth in the age-old method of beating—a laborious, traditional process that few still practise.
Kansa is unforgiving. Its hardness, derived from the precise 78:22 ratio, makes it difficult to shape—only the Kansara community artisans from Gujarat possess the skill to beat it to perfection. COVID-19 revived interest in immunity and wellness, saving this dying craft just in time.
Why Not Just Copper? The Ayurvedic Science Behind Kansa
Many ask, “Why not use copper directly?”
Ayurveda has the answer.
Copper, while beneficial, reacts with sour foods, lemon, and salt—releasing toxins. Only when combined in precise proportion with bell metal does Copper become safe, stable, and therapeutic. That’s Kansa.
But even certified products in the market contained poisonous traces of lead, mercury, and other harmful metals. My mission was clear: create the purest Kansa for my family—regardless of cost or time. After four years of relentless work, I succeeded.
What began as a personal pursuit is now MAMTA FOMRA Kansaware—crafted with purpose, backed by science, and infused with soul.

Behind Every Piece: The Art of Making MAMTA FOMRA Kansa
Crafted by Heritage Artisans. Fired by Purpose.
Each utensil is born from the skilled hands of Kansara artisans of Gujarat, who begin before dawn to beat the heat and the metal.
The Process: Heat and Beat
- Copper (Tamba) and Bell Metal (Ghanti Dhatu) are fused into a metal ball using traditional tools like:
- Sandasi (pincers), Kala Pankha (hand blower), Kunda (lathe), Shanwashi (tongs), and more.
- The metal is melted into a thick coin, then shaped using hammers (Hataudi) through intense manual beating.
- Four artisans work in synchrony to bring a single utensil to life.
This original process—not moulding or casting—is what gives our Kansa its strength, energy, and soul.
